    Sweden output drops 1.5% as industrial orders jump

    STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Sweden’s industrial production fell 1.5% in June from a year earlier, official figures showed. Output also declined 0.4% from May after seasonal adjustment. Statistics Sweden said the industrial Production Value Index stood at 112.4, compared with 112.9 in May. The June result followed a revised 7.6% annual increase in May. The data showed a clear reversal from the previous month’s strong yearly gain.

    Sweden output drops 1.5% as industrial orders jump
    Sweden industrial production declined as new and export orders increased sharply in June.

    Manufacturing output declined 1.0% from June 2025 and fell 0.4% from May. Mining and quarrying recorded a steeper drop, falling 13.8% year on year. Output in that segment also decreased 3.3% from May. Industry carries a 20.2% weight in Sweden’s broader private-sector production measure. Manufacturing represents most of that share, accounting for 19.4 percentage points of the total weighting.

    Despite the June decline, industrial production remained higher across the second quarter. Average output from April through June rose 4.0% from the same period in 2025. On a seasonally adjusted basis, production increased 4.8% from the previous three-month period. Sweden’s total private-sector production also expanded in June. It rose 0.4% from May and increased 1.8% from a year earlier.

    Broader private-sector production posts annual growth

    Services production slipped 0.2% from May but remained 3.0% above its June 2025 level. Construction activity rose 2.0% on the month and increased 7.6% from a year earlier. The services index stood at 111.9, compared with 112.1 in May. Construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services account for 67.2% of the broader production measure, while construction represents 8.4%.

    Separate data from Statistics Sweden showed a sharp rise in new industrial orders during June. Total orders increased 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. They were also 29.9% higher than in June 2025 on a calendar-adjusted basis. Export orders jumped 56.5% from May and 57.6% from a year earlier. Domestic orders were nearly unchanged on the month but fell 7.4% annually.

    Export orders surge as transport equipment leads gains

    Transport equipment recorded the strongest increase among the main industrial order categories. Orders in the sector rose 101.0% from May and 118.2% from June 2025. Manufacturing orders increased 33.2% on the month and 31.2% year on year. Capital-goods orders rose 45.5% from May and 50.7% annually. Mining and quarrying orders moved in the opposite direction, dropping 1.8% monthly and 19.0% from a year earlier.

    For the first half of 2026, total industrial orders stood 4.0% above the same period in 2025. Export orders increased 6.6% over that six-month period. The production and orders indicators measure different parts of industrial activity. The Production Value Index tracks changes in output at constant prices. The orders series measures new demand from domestic and overseas customers. Preliminary monthly figures can change when additional information becomes available.
