CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, equipped with a new variable-aperture camera system and the A20 Pro processor. These models also deliver extended battery life, advanced professional camera controls, and a more compact Dynamic Island. Both devices operate on iOS 27 and include support for Apple Intelligence features, such as Siri AI. The lineup is available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open on September 12, with the initial retail release scheduled for September 18.

For the first time, the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera introduces adjustable aperture. Six laser-cut blades shift between four aperture settings to optimize light intake and depth of field. Users can manually select these settings within the Camera app. The new Pro controls also offer direct access to shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram helps photographers monitor exposure during framing. Additionally, Apple has enhanced Photographic Styles by adding texture and grain controls, enabling further customization before sharing images.
Video recording capabilities see multiple improvements across the iPhone 18 Pro series. Users can add Cinematic effects after filming at up to 60 frames per second. Time-lapse mode now records in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. Upgraded Audio Mix algorithms enhance voice clarity and can isolate music. The new Apple Reference Image feature captures signed sensor data in an optional Reference mode. Private Cloud Compute then processes this data to generate a reference image, which users can compare with their primary photo within the Photos app.
Focus on camera control and image validation upgrades
The A20 Pro chip, utilizing a 2-nanometer process, combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU offers performance boosts of up to 40% compared to the A19 Pro. A Dual 16-core Neural Engine provides 32 cores dedicated to AI tasks and computational photography. The thermal system has been redesigned around a next-generation vapor chamber, with a surface area three times larger than the previous model, supporting up to 40% higher sustained performance, as per Apple’s testing.
Battery life has increased on both Pro models, with eSIM-only variants gaining extra capacity due to the removal of the SIM tray. The iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 36 hours of video playback during Apple’s testing, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours. Wired charging can bring the battery to 50% in approximately 15 minutes. The eSIM-only versions will debut in Bahrain, Canada, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and other supported markets.
