Screen savers

Google, together with the Museo Prado, have published ultra-high resolution, fully navigable digital images of a number of the museum’s key works, including a personal favourite, Diego Velázquez’s Las Meninas. The innovation has already sparked interesting debate, notably Christopher Caldwell for the FT:

“Now we can view paintings this way, reputations will shift. Van der Weyden’s fame may grow beyond the circle of credentialed art-lovers. Mondrian and Warhol, by contrast, will appear not so much painters as designers of screen-savers.”
